How do we know pride is a sin?

Answered in 6 sources

Pride is recognized as a sin because of its pervasive nature and its opposition to God's sovereignty, as evidenced throughout Scripture.

Pride is the root of many sins and is intricately linked to our fallen nature. The Bible depicts pride as something that elevates us in opposition to God’s authority, seeking to take the throne meant for Him alone. This is why Proverbs 16:18 states, 'Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.' The various means God uses to expose and destroy pride in our lives serve to highlight its danger and the necessity for believers to recognize it as sin. Furthermore, it is by the grace of God that we can confront and mortify this sin, which we see in the exhortation found in 1 Peter 5:5 to clothe ourselves in humility.
