How do we know regeneration by the Spirit is true?

Moreover, the changed lives of believers serve as living testimonies to the reality of regeneration. Romans 8:16 states that the Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, evidencing the inner change brought about by regeneration.
