How do we know repentance is real?

Answered in 1 source

Real repentance manifests through a change of heart and behavior, motivated by godly sorrow and a desire to honor God.

The genuineness of repentance is evidenced by the subsequent changes in a believer's life and heart. As stated in 2 Corinthians 7:11, true godly sorrow prompts a 'carefulness' and 'indignation' against sin, thereby producing a noticeable shift in attitudes and actions. This change is not merely an outward adjustment but a heart transformation powered by the Spirit of God. Believers, compelled by the love of Christ, will demonstrate a renewed zeal for righteousness and a commitment to living in a manner that pleases God.
