How do we know salvation is for the poor in spirit?

Answered in 1 source

Jesus taught that those who are poor in spirit are blessed and will receive comfort, indicating their salvation.

Matthew 5:3 states, 'Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.' This beatitude emphasizes that spiritual poverty—an acknowledgment of one's need for God—is essential for salvation. The poor in spirit recognize their utter reliance on God's grace, making them receptive to His mercy and love. Lazarus in the parable exemplifies this, as he was humble and desired only crumbs from the rich man's table, thereby demonstrating his recognition of his neediness. In stark contrast, the rich man, who was blind to his own spiritual need, ended up in torment.
