How do we know sanctification is necessary for Christians?

Answered in 3 sources

Sanctification is necessary because it signifies a believer's transformation and growth in holiness after justification (Romans 6:8-11).

The necessity of sanctification for Christians is rooted in the believer's experience of salvation. Romans 6:8-11 illustrates that if we have died with Christ, we will also live with Him—indicating that the life of a believer ought to be marked by an ongoing growth in holiness and righteousness. Just as justification cannot be separated from faith, sanctification cannot be separated from an acknowledgment of our new identity in Christ. To be made free from the guilt of sin inherently means that the power of sin is also broken, leading to a life characterized by obedience and service to God. Therefore, true faith produces a desire to pursue holiness.
