How do we know sanctified affliction is beneficial?

Answered in 1 source

Sanctified affliction is evidenced by spiritual growth, increased concern for sin, and a deepened relationship with God.

The effectiveness of sanctified affliction can be discerned through several indicators presented in Scripture. A spiritually beneficial affliction prompts a deep concern for our sins and the desire to grow in holiness. As noted in the sermon, those undergoing sanctification through trial display earnest prayer and reflection, showing they recognize God's hand in their suffering. Additionally, after the trial, if individuals maintain a commitment to spiritual growth and devote themselves to God's service, this indicates that the affliction has indeed served its purpose. Engaging with God, yielding fruits of righteousness, and experiencing increased sympathy for others in similar afflictions further demonstrate the positive outcomes of such tribulations.
