How do we know sin is serious?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that sin's consequences are grave, leading to spiritual death and separation from God.

Sin is serious because it results in eternal separation from God. Romans 6:23 tells us that the wages of sin is death, which underscores the lethal nature of sin—not just physical death, but spiritual death and eternal condemnation. The pervasive nature of sin impacts all aspects of our lives, breeding corruption and rebellion against God. This reality is often obscured by a superficial understanding of morality, which is why believers must allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the depth of their own sinfulness to themselves. Only through acknowledging this grave reality can one plead for God's mercy and seek true redemption through Christ.
