How do we know suffering has a purpose?

Answered in 1 source

Suffering serves as a reminder of our temporary existence and shapes our hope for eternal glory with Christ.

Believers endure suffering for several reasons, prominently that it refines us and draws us closer to God. In Romans 8:28-30, we see that God works all things—including our suffering—together for our good, to those who are called according to His purpose. Our suffering not only prepares us for future glory but also provides us with a deeper understanding of the gospel and our dependence on Christ. The promise of eternal joy outweighs the trials of this life and fuels our hope.
