How do we know that accumulating earthly treasures can be harmful?

Answered in 1 source

Accumulating earthly treasures can distract our hearts from God and lead to worry and dissatisfaction.

Jesus warns in Matthew 6:19-21 against the pursuit of earthly treasures, which can lead to eventual loss and disappointment due to their corruptible nature. The focus on worldly possessions can cause our hearts to drift away from God and lead to spiritual complacency or anxiety as we seek security in something that is ultimately fleeting. Instead, we are called to direct our affections toward God and His eternal purposes, which provides true peace and fulfillment.
