How do we know that afflictions are light?

Answered in 1 source

Afflictions are considered light because they are temporary and do not compare to what we truly deserve due to sin (Psalm 103:10).

The Bible affirms that our afflictions are light when viewed in context. Paul teaches in 2 Corinthians 4:17 that our troubles are momentary and are followed by an eternal weight of glory. The reason we can view such heavy burdens as light is rooted in the understanding of God’s mercy. Psalm 103:10 states that God has not dealt with us according to our sins. This implies that the trials we currently endure are far less than we deserve as a result of our rebellion against the Holy God. Our afflictions, while painful, serve a purpose in God’s plan and serve to remind us of His grace and the temporary nature of our suffering compared to the eternal joy that awaits us.
