How do we know that authority is ordained by God?

In Romans 13:1, the Apostle Paul declares, "Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God." This assertion underlines the sovereign grace belief that God orchestrates human authority for His purposes. Authorities such as civil governments and family structures are established by Him to maintain order and promote good.
