How do we know that being a Christian is more than just belief?

Answered in 1 source

True Christianity involves submission to Christ beyond mere belief in doctrines.

Being a Christian extends beyond just believing certain doctrines or historical facts about Jesus Christ. Paul makes this clear in Acts 26 when he discusses Agrippa's understanding of faith and the implications of truly following Christ. True faith necessitates a life transformed by grace, which includes submission to Christ as Lord.

This means embracing a holistic change — a new way of life characterized by a direction towards God instead of the self-serving ways of this world. Believing in Christ includes acknowledging Him not only as Savior but as the Supreme authority in one’s life, leading to obedience and devotion. Thus, the essence of being a Christian is linked to recognizing Jesus' rightful place in our hearts and actions, as Revelation 19:16 calls Him the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
