How do we know that being accepted by God is through faith?

Answered in 1 source

Being accepted by God is through faith evidenced by obedience, as seen in Abel’s offering.

The acceptance of Abel's offering over Cain's is a clear illustration of how faith is essential for acceptance by God. Hebrews 11:4 states, 'By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain.' Abel's faith led him to bring the sacrifice God required—one involving the shedding of blood. In contrast, Cain's offering, though it may have appeared acceptable in human terms, did not align with God's prescribed method. This acceptance reflects a broader truth in Scripture: true faith results in obedience to God’s commands. We are reminded that faith acts upon the revelation of God’s word, and as such, the only way for a person to be accepted by God is to approach Him through faith in Christ, the ultimate sacrifice.
