How do we know that being religious doesn't guarantee salvation?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible clearly states that religious observance alone, like that of the Jews, does not ensure salvation.

In Romans 9:6-8, the Apostle Paul argues that not all who are physically descended from Abraham are true children of God. Merely being part of a chosen nation or possessing the law does not equate to salvation. This truth extends to modern-day religious people who trust in their rituals or heritage instead of having genuine faith in Christ, which is the only means of salvation (Galatians 3:6-7). Consequently, true children of God are identified by their faith in Christ, not their heritage or works.
