How do we know that believers are God's sheep?

Answered in 1 source

Believers are considered God's sheep because Jesus laid down His life for them, as stated in John 10:14-15.

In John 10:14-15, Jesus explicitly states, 'I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine.' This passage signifies a deep, personal relationship between Christ and His elect. The defining characteristic of being a sheep is that they know the Shepherd and hear His voice, which is indicative of faith and trust. Additionally, Jesus lays down His life precisely for these sheep—not for the goats. This sacrificial love points to both election and the covenant relationship believers have with Christ, establishing their identity as His chosen people, inherently tied to His redemptive work on the cross.
