How do we know that believers are made righteous?

Answered in 2 sources

Believers are made righteous through the imputation of Christ's righteousness, not by their own works (2 Corinthians 5:21).

The assurance of righteousness for believers rests on the atoning work of Jesus Christ. According to 2 Corinthians 5:21, 'For he made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.' This signifies that our righteousness before God is due to Christ's obedience and sacrifice, which is imputed to us. Thus, believers are not inherently righteous by nature but are declared righteous because of their faith in Christ and His perfect righteousness accounted to them.
