How do we know that believers are partakers of the divine nature?

Answered in 1 source

Believers partake of the divine nature through the new birth, where Christ is formed within them.

Believers become partakers of the divine nature not in the sense that they share God's essence, but in that they receive the nature of Christ, who is God incarnate. This transformation happens during regeneration, when the Holy Spirit imparts the nature of Christ to the believer. As noted in 2 Peter 1:4, this transformation allows believers to escape the world's corruption and live in accordance with God's righteousness. This divine nature is a central tenet of the new covenant as prophesied in Jeremiah 31:33, where God promises to write His laws in our hearts, thus enabling a life marked by holiness and spiritual vitality.
