How do we know that believers struggle with sin?

Answered in 4 sources

The Scripture reveals in Romans 7 that believers experience a continuous struggle with sin due to the presence of their old nature.

Romans 7 vividly illustrates the struggle believers have with sin. The Apostle Paul articulates this conflict by stating that 'in me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing' (Romans 7:18), showcasing the reality that, while the new man delights in God's law, the flesh continues to produce sin. Paul identifies a law within himself; even when he desires to do good, sin remains active, leading to actions contrary to his will. This ongoing struggle is a hallmark of genuine faith, where the believer recognizes their own shortcomings and the necessity of Christ's righteousness. Such awareness serves both to humble the believer and to deepen their reliance on God's grace for sanctification.
