How do we know that believers will be present at the coming of the Lord?

Answered in 1 source

Believers will be present at the return of Christ, as Paul teaches they will not be overtaken by this day like thieves in the night.

In 1 Thessalonians 5, Paul explicitly teaches that the day of the Lord will not overtake believers as a thief. This implies that Christians will be present here on earth when the day of the Lord arrives. Paul contrasts the fate of the unconverted with that of the brethren, assuring them that though judgment comes for the ungodly, they will experience the glorious salvation of Christ. This underscores the belief within sovereign grace theology that Christians will not be removed from the trials of this world before Christ’s return, but that rather, they will witness His second coming and experience the fulfillment of their ultimate hope.
