How do we know that Christ is central to the covenant of grace?

Answered in 1 source

We know Christ is central to the covenant of grace through the fulfillment of Old Testament types and shadows pointing to His redemptive work.

Christ’s centrality in the covenant of grace is evident from the Old Testament, where various sacrifices and figures foreshadow His coming. In Genesis 15, the sacrifices made by Abraham symbolize the ultimate sacrifice of Christ, depicted as the Lamb of God. Each animal mentioned—the heifer, goat, ram, turtle dove, and pigeon—represents aspects of Christ’s character and work. For instance, the heifer signifies purity and strength, foreshadowing Jesus’ sinless life. The scapegoat depicts Christ bearing the sins of His people (Leviticus 16). These sacrificial elements illustrate the fulfillment of God’s promises through Christ, confirming His role as the mediator of the covenant. The New Testament, particularly in Hebrews, reaffirms that Christ’s sacrifice is the perfect fulfillment of what these types only anticipated.
