How do we know that Christ is our comfort?

Answered in 2 sources

Christ is our comfort because He suffered fully on our behalf, providing consolation to believers in their spiritual afflictions.

The comfort found in Christ is grounded in His own sufferings and the way He fully understands the trials of His people. As stated in 2 Corinthians 1:5, the sufferings of Christ abound in us, and through this identification with His suffering, believers receive abundant consolation. Understanding Christ’s anguish on the cross and His perfect fulfillment of the law provides believers with hope amid their afflictions. Spiritual afflictions arise out of the battle with sin and the desire for holiness, and Christ sympathizes with His followers, having endured the ultimate trial. Thus, believers find comfort in Him who has walked the path of suffering and offers them peace and assurance of His presence in their struggles.
