How do we know that Christ's agony was necessary for our salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's agony was necessary as He bore the weight of sin to provide atonement, fulfilling God's justice for salvation.

The agony of Christ in Gethsemane underscores the essential nature of His suffering as He prepared to take upon Himself the sins of His people. Scriptures clearly indicate that without the bloodshed of Christ, there is no forgiveness of sin (Hebrews 9:22). His heavy heart was not due to the fear of death but the anticipation of being made sin for us, which reflects the depth of His sacrifice. Moreover, His suffering was necessary for the atonement of sin, as Christ had to fulfill the demands of divine justice for salvation to be possible (Romans 3:24-26). Therefore, His agony should lead believers to appreciate the beauty and necessity of His substitutionary work.
