How do we know that Christ's righteousness is our righteousness?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's righteousness is attributed to believers because He fulfilled the law on our behalf and bore our sins.

The concept of Christ's righteousness being imputed to believers is rooted in the gospel. As seen in Isaiah 42:21, it is because of Christ's perfect obedience – His fulfillment of the law and taking on our sins – that righteousness is ascribed to us. This means that when God looks at believers, He sees them through the lens of Christ's perfection rather than their own sinfulness. Since Christ was made sin for us and bore the wrath of God, His perfect life is credited to those who trust in Him, ensuring that they stand justified before God. This truth is a cornerstone of Reformed theology, highlighting God's grace and the redemptive work of Christ.
