How do we know that Christ's sacrificial death was necessary?

Answered in 1 source

Christ's death was necessary for atonement, fulfilling the righteous requirements of God's law (John 3:14-15).

In John 3:14-15, Jesus states, 'As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.' This points to the necessity of Christ's sacrifice for salvation. Just as the Israelites were saved from venomous serpent bites by looking to the brass serpent, humanity is saved from sin by looking to Christ, who bore the penalty for sin on the cross. The lifting up of Christ signifies the fulfillment of divine justice, making salvation available to all who believe, as only a sinless Savior could bear sin's curse effectively.
