How do we know that Christ's sufferings relate to our sufferings?

Answered in 1 source

Christ’s sufferings are foundational for understanding how we, as His followers, will also suffer for righteousness.

The Apostle Peter draws a parallel between the sufferings of Christ and the sufferings of believers in 1 Peter 3. He states, 'because Christ also suffered' (1 Peter 3:18), highlighting that our sufferings are rooted in our relationship with Him. Just as Christ suffered for the sake of righteousness, we too will experience suffering as part of our walk with Him. This connection is emphasized further in Romans 8:17, which claims that if we are children of God, we are heirs with Christ, provided that we suffer with Him. Thus, our sufferings not only identify us with Christ but also serve the purpose of transforming us and drawing us closer to Him.
