How do we know that Christians should be tolerant?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture commands Christians to pursue peace and be good witnesses in a hostile world, reflecting true tolerance.

Christians are called to be tolerant in the sense of living peacefully among others, as urged in Romans 12:18, 'If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.' This does not mean compromising on truth or condoning sin, but rather acknowledging that we live in a world where God's people are called to be salt and light, offering a contrasting witness to the behaviors around us. The examples of biblical figures like Joseph, Daniel, and Esther illustrate that even in pagan societies, one can live commendably while adhering to their faith. Their lives reflect the call to excellence and respect in their conduct, which in turn opens opportunities for witnessing without forcing acceptance of sinful behaviors.
