How do we know that Christians should not continue in sin?

Answered in 2 sources

Christians are considered dead to sin, as noted in Romans 6:2, which implies they cannot live in it any longer.

The Apostle Paul emphasizes that believers are united with Christ in his death, which signifies that they are 'dead to sin.' This spiritual reality means that sin should no longer have dominion over them. According to Romans 6:6, 'Our old man is crucified with him,' suggesting that true regeneration results in a fundamental change in one's disposition towards sin. The believer’s nature has been altered to no longer seek after sin as their home or delight, reflecting a deep-seated repulsion toward sin, irrespective of fear of hell.
