How do we know that death is not a punishment for believers?

Answered in 1 source

For believers, death is not a punishment but a transition to eternal life with Christ, as Christ has borne their sins (Romans 6:23).

In Romans 6:23, we understand that the wages of sin is death, indicating that for the unbeliever, death is the deserved consequence of sin. However, for the believer, Christ has satisfied the penalty for sin, meaning their death carries no punishment. The believer’s death is a privilege, as 2 Corinthians 5:8 states, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Therefore, rather than being seen as a punishment, death for believers is seen as the fulfillment of God’s promises and a passage into eternal glory.
