How do we know that elders should lead with humility?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible commands elders to shepherd the flock willingly and to be examples of humility.

Elders are instructed in 1 Peter 5 to shepherd God's flock, not lording over them, but being examples to the flock. This reflects the humility demanded of church leaders, as they are to serve diligently and selflessly. Christ Himself, the chief shepherd, exemplified this servant leadership by laying down His life for the sheep (John 10:11). The humility and gentleness of an elder should mirror Christ's approach, leading by example rather than by authority or force, thus fostering a community rooted in love and mutual respect.
