How do we know that faith in Christ is the cause of our acceptance?

Answered in 1 source

Faith in Christ is the cause of our acceptance because it is through His sacrifice and righteousness that we are justified before God.

Cornelius, despite his good works and devout nature, did not receive assurance of acceptance until Peter preached the gospel to him (Acts 10:22-33). This indicates that mere acts of righteousness, while commendable, do not in themselves grant acceptance with God. Instead, acceptance is firmly rooted in the preaching of Christ's atoning work. In Romans 3:22, we see that righteousness is received through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. Thus, it is clear that our standing before God is based not on our works, but solely on Christ’s merit, as affirmed in 2 Corinthians 5:21, where Christ becomes sin for us so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
