How do we know that faith in Jesus is true faith?

Answered in 1 source

True faith in Jesus is evidenced by a continual commitment to His teachings and a transformed life.

True faith is characterized by an enduring commitment to follow Christ, as stated in John 8:31, where Jesus says, 'If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed.' This ongoing relationship and perseverance in faith demonstrate that one is genuinely a disciple of Christ. Unlike mere intellectual belief, true faith manifests in obedience and a heart transformed by grace, which is opposed to a superficial or spurious faith that does not result in a changed life. A true believer recognizes their dependence on Christ and follows Him wholeheartedly.
