How do we know that free grace is truly free?

Answered in 1 source

Free grace is termed 'free' because it is given without any merit or cause found in us.

While grace is said to be 'free' in Scripture, this does not imply that it comes without cost. Romans 3:24 explains that we are justified freely by His grace—not on account of any merit on our part. The word 'freely' signifies that it is without a cause in us, as our justification and redemption come through the costly sacrifice of Christ. Thus, while salvation is free to us, its foundation is built upon Christ's suffering, highlighting the deep cost associated with this glorious gift of grace.
