How do we know that free will does not lead to salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Free will does not empower one to turn to God, as it is God's grace alone that enables the heart to seek Him.

The narrative of Samson illustrates our inability to resist temptation without divine grace. Many may assert that human free will allows them to choose God, yet it is in recognizing our total dependence on God's grace that we see true salvation. Samson, despite his faith, fell into sin when he relied on his own strength rather than on God. This shows us that without divine intervention, our wills are bound to sin, highlighting the necessity of God's grace for genuine faith.
