How do we know that free will is not compatible with sin?

Answered in 1 source

We know free will is not compatible with sin because our nature, choice, and practice lead us to sin, eliminating true freedom of choice.

The concept of free will is challenged in light of Scripture that states we are all under sin by nature. In Romans 3, it is clear that sin controls us, indicating that we cannot choose righteousness or seek God unless a divine intervention occurs. The preacher explains that the idea of free will is even 'ridiculous' when we realize our will is governed by an evil nature, compelling us nonetheless toward sin (Romans 3:10-12). Thus, while we may make choices, they are not free in the sense of being able to choose anything other than sin unless God enables us to do so.
