How do we know that God can be our friend?

Answered in 1 source

God shows Himself to be a friend to sinners through His grace, particularly in the person of Jesus Christ.

The assurance of God's friendship is highlighted in John 15:13-15, where Jesus declares, 'You are my friends if you do what I command.' This command emphasizes faith in Him as the mediator between God and humanity. The mutual relationship described indicates that God chooses to make Himself known and accessible through Christ, who laid down His life for friends. The act of Christ as our friend reflects God's initiating grace, continually inviting us into a relationship characterized by love, kindness, and mutual understanding. Therefore, through faith in Christ, we come to experience the depth of God's friendship.
