How do we know that God can justify us?

Answered in 1 source

We know God justifies us through His sovereign grace and the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:33).

The assurance of justification comes from God's own declaration through Scripture. Romans 8:33 states, 'Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifies.' This highlights God's sovereign action in salvation, indicating that it is not based upon our merit or works but entirely on His grace. Justification is rooted in the finished work of Christ on the cross, where He bore the punishment for our sins, allowing us to stand before God blameless. This assurance transcends our failings, as it relies on God’s commitment to His elect, reinforcing that if God declares us justified, no one can counter that decision.
