How do we know that God first gives life to the believer?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture affirms that spiritual life is given by God, specifically through the work of Christ in the believer (Ephesians 2:4-5).

The notion that God is the first giver of life is central to understanding salvation in the Christian faith. As established in Ephesians 2:4-5, even when we were dead in our sins, God, being rich in mercy, made us alive together with Christ. This clearly indicates that spiritual life cannot be generated by human effort or will but is a result of God’s sovereign grace. Romans 8 highlights that those who are in Christ are no longer under condemnation, but rather experience life through the Spirit, which is attributed to the righteousness of Christ. Thus, acknowledging God as the initiator of life brings clarity to the believer's awareness of their complete reliance on Him for salvation.
