How do we know that God gives power over demons to believers?

Answered in 1 source

Believers receive power over demons through the authority of Jesus Christ and the gospel.

In Luke 9:1-2, we see Christ giving His twelve disciples power and authority over all devils, highlighting that this power is derived from Him. This authority continues today, though not in the same miraculous manner as with the apostles but through the preaching of the gospel. Martin Luther noted that the expulsion of demons is accomplished 'by the preaching of the gospel.' As believers share the truth of Christ, they wield the authority of Scripture and the Holy Spirit, which continue to be effective in combating the influence of evil. Ephesians 6 reinforces this by instructing believers to put on the whole armor of God to stand against the wiles of the devil, demonstrating that while the struggle against spiritual forces is real, believers are equipped for victory through the gospel.
