How do we know that God has a purpose for our suffering?

Answered in 3 sources

God's purposes are revealed through Scripture, asserting that all suffering has significance in His sovereign plan for His people.

The Bible depicts suffering as part of God's overarching purpose for His creation and His glory. In 2 Timothy 4, Paul references his loneliness and suffering yet affirms that God was with him, highlighting the comfort found in divine companionship during trials. Suffering can serve multiple purposes, including refining our faith and demonstrating God's grace. God's promises, such as in 2 Corinthians 13:4, assure us that even through weakness, He exhibits His strength. Believers are therefore called to trust in God's sovereign purpose, believing that He is working all things together for their ultimate good and His glory.
