How do we know that God has thoughts of mercy towards us?

Answered in 1 source

God reveals His thoughts of mercy through His Word and the Gospel (Jeremiah 29:11, John 3:16).

The assurance of God's thoughts towards us, which are rooted in love and mercy, is vividly illustrated in Scripture. In Jeremiah 29:11, God promises His people, 'I know the thoughts I think towards you, thoughts of peace and not of evil.' Furthermore, the ultimate expression of His mercy is found in the Gospel as stated in John 3:16: 'For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.' This confirms that God's intention is not only to know us but also to redeem us through Christ's sacrificial love. Therefore, believing Christians can rest in the assurance that God's thoughts towards them are inherently merciful and loving.
