How do we know that God is the one who enables us to believe?

Answered in 1 source

God's effectiveness in calling is established in Scripture, illustrating that His commands come with the power to obey.

The sovereignty of God in salvation is evidenced through His ability to command spiritual life and belief in us. For instance, when Jesus commanded Lazarus to come out of the tomb (John 11:43), Lazarus responded because God's word was accompanied by life-giving power. The same principle applies to our conversion; God commands the dead in sin to believe, and in doing so, He also provides the necessary grace for them to respond. Romans 5:6 further affirms this by stating that Christ died for the ungodly at a time when they were 'without strength.' God acts first, enabling us to respond in faith.
