How do we know that God loves the righteous?

Answered in 1 source

God loves the righteous in Christ, as His love is based on His character and the sacrificial work of Jesus.

The love of God for the righteous is a recurring theme throughout scripture, particularly in the context of being 'in Christ.' For instance, Romans 8:39 states that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ. God's love is not arbitrary but is deeply rooted in His holiness and the redeeming work of Christ, who became sin for us. This means that our righteousness, which is defined by our faith and union with Christ, is the basis of God's peculiar love for His people. He cannot love unrighteousness, and so His love is perfectly holy and just.
