How do we know that God loves the world?

The love of God is foundational to understanding His relationship with humanity. John 3:16 articulates this truth, stating that 'God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son.' This love is a display of God's grace and compassion towards all of humanity, regardless of their sinfulness. While we affirm that God's special love is directed towards the elect, His general love encompasses the whole world, as seen in His willing desire for all to be saved (2 Peter 3:9). This love is a powerful motivation for mission and evangelism, highlighting the extent of God's mercy and grace.
