How do we know that God loves us during difficult times?

Answered in 3 sources

God's love is demonstrated through His covenant grace, which assures us that afflictions serve His purpose and ultimately glorify Him.

In John 11:5, we see that Jesus loved Lazarus and his sisters, yet Lazarus still fell ill. This paradox illustrates that God's love does not prevent difficulties but uses them for His glory and our growth. Romans 8:28 reassures believers that God works all things together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. This means that in our darkest times, God is actively working in ways we might not yet comprehend, which reaffirms His steadfast love for us. Additionally, the covenant of grace brings comfort, providing assurance that we are never abandoned in our suffering but are being shaped by our experiences.
