How do we know that God proves His children through challenges?

Answered in 1 source

Scripture depicts God proving His children by allowing trials, as seen in the Israelites' experience.

Judges 3:4 explicitly states that God left enemies in Canaan to prove the Israelites to see whether they would follow His commandments. Similar principles are found in 1 Corinthians 11:19, which says that heresies among believers are necessary to reveal the approved among them. These scriptural references highlight that God uses trials and challenges to demonstrate the faith and integrity of His people, thereby strengthening their spiritual character. In facing these hardships, we learn about our own hearts, the importance of depending on God, and His faithful promises. The trial itself doesn't change God's love for us but is used to show us more about His character and about our faith.
