How do we know that God punishes pride?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible clearly states that God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).

Throughout Scripture, it’s evident that pride is an abomination to God. Isaiah 57:15 reveals how God dwells with those who are humble and contrite in spirit. Conversely, in Daniel 5, the case of Belshazzar illustrates that his pride led to his downfall; he did not humble his heart despite knowing the deeds of his father, Nebuchadnezzar, whom God humbled due to pride (Daniel 4:37). This demonstrates that God actively opposes those who exalt themselves, as illustrated in Proverbs 16:18, which warns, 'Pride goes before destruction.' Therefore, believers are always encouraged to maintain humility and avoid the perils of pride, which can lead to divine judgment.
