How do we know that God's blessings come before obedience?

Answered in 1 source

We know God's blessings precede our obedience because Scripture reveals that God’s grace is first, empowering us to obey Him.

The passage in Exodus 23 illustrates that God's blessing is foundational. The angel sent by God symbolizes Christ, who leads and protects His people. The promise of blessings, such as being an enemy to enemies, comes before any command for obedience. This teaches us that our ability to obey stems from recognizing and responding to God's grace. For example, the act of believing the gospel is seen as obedience to God’s command. True obedience, therefore, flows out of the gifts bestowed upon us by grace, emphasizing that we are empowered to obey only after experiencing God's saving grace and love in Christ.
