How do we know that God's grace is needed for repentance?

Answered in 1 source

God's grace awakens us to our sinfulness and enables true repentance, as Paul indicates in 2 Corinthians 7:11.

In 2 Corinthians 7:11, Paul describes the multi-faceted aspects of repentance that result from a godly sorrow. This includes an awareness of sin’s severity and a genuine desire to seek restoration with God. Our natural state blinds us to our sinful condition, but through God's grace, we are made aware of our need for repentance. His grace does not simply push us to feel guilty; instead, it empowers us to see our sins as against Him, transforming our hearts and causing us to desire reconciliation. Without this divine intervention, we remain in denial about our condition and continue in sin.
