How do we know that God's mercy is available to us?

Answered in 4 sources

God's mercy is available to all who humbly seek Him, as demonstrated in the story of Elijah and the third captain.

In the account found in 2 Kings, the third captain, unlike his predecessors, approaches Elijah with humility and a plea for mercy, which exemplifies the necessary attitude for receiving God's grace. This captain's genuine fear and respect for Elijah—the man of God—allowed him to witness the mercy of God when he recognized the futility of rebellion against divine authority. This teaches us that God is willing to extend His mercy to those who come to Him sincerely, regardless of their past actions. The narrative illustrates that even in God’s sovereign plan, He orchestrates events to lead individuals to a point of repentance and humility, thus inviting them into His grace.
