How do we know that God's mercy is for us?

Answered in 1 source

We know God's mercy is for us through faith in His promises as revealed in Scripture.

The psalmist in Psalm 119:41-42 articulates the hope found in God's mercy and the assurance of salvation through His word. Sovereign grace theology teaches that God's mercy is not arbitrary but is specifically directed toward His Elect. The believer's understanding of God's mercy is fortified through the Spirit's work in revealing the depth of God's grace as expressed in Scripture. As believers meditate on the law and promises of God, they come to know His unfailing love and mercy, which gives them confidence in their relationship with Him. This understanding comes not from mere intellectual assent but from a heart transformed by God's Spirit.
